For 50 years Linlithgow Union Canal Society has enabled and promoted the recreational use of the Union Canal.
Our members are key to everything we have achieved and plan to do.
Membership is open to all, from teenagers to centenarians.
Some members become active volunteers but that is up to you.
Everyone will have something to offer and find something to enjoy.
Members receive:

Reduced boat hire charges (after a qualifying period of 6 months)
Voting rights at our AGM (age restricted)
…and perhaps most importantly of all, an open invitation to come to the basin to chat and enjoy the society in operation.
Volunteer
We are a charity and everything you see – boats, museum, tea room – is run by our member-volunteers. (For insurance purposes, all volunteers must be members of LUCS.)
Volunteers create all the memorable days for the public, and in the process make memorable days for themselves.
They can be found at the Canal Basin on Wednesday and Saturday mornings throughout the year. Some come down every day during our Summer season but that is entirely up to the volunteer.
Volunteers use their existing skills and learn new ones. LUCS provides all necessary equipment and training, plus full health & safety instruction. No volunteer will ever be asked to step out of their comfort zone.
As a thank you, LUCS provides volunteers with free hot drinks plus light lunches in our small but lively club house!
We need volunteers on and off the water (though never in it!).
DRIVERS & CREW – Our canal boats are driven, not sailed.
Drivers take visitors on cruises short and long. Driving at 3mph is trickier than it looks, but very relaxing once you have the hang of it. Crew help with ropes, knots and mooring.
MECHANICS & ENGINEERS – All boats leak!
If you like technical things, we can offer you welding and joinery, or mechanical and electrical tasks.
ON-SHORE HELP – Our 200 year-old premises need regular loving attention.
…so we need people who can paint, plumb or garden, to name just a few.
WELCOMING PEOPLE from throughout the world.
We need help to staff our tearoom, reception and Scotland’s only Canal Museum.
MARKETING – Tell the world about LUCS!
